Maybe I missed something, but it seems like everyone just kinda dropped the H-S Precision “we think it’s cool to be endorsed by people who murder unarmed nursing mothers!” thing, including Remington.
The last I heard, Tommy Millner wasn’t pleased with what H-S had done, but was waiting on further explanation from them before making his next move. It’s a year and a half later, so that ought to be long enough to have it all sorted, right?
As we’re in the market for a bolt gun, The Inconvenience just called Remington to ask if they’re still doing business with H-S. The rather rude representative he spoke to said there is a demand for H-S products, so yes, they are. And, when TI said he wanted it to be known that we won’t purchase any more Remington products because of this, the rep cut him off and said “I’m not going to get into a political discussion with you.” He pointed out he wasn’t trying to have a discussion, just notify them they were losing business.
I’m pretty depressed about this. And, frankly, I feel misled. Mr. Millner had strong words about H-S Precision, but appears to have been content to let it all blow over without taking any action. I guess that might be a sound business strategy, but some of us don’t forget so easily.
EDIT: Hmm, interesting. I didn’t realize Tommy Millner left Remington for Cabela’s. The new Freedom Group CEO, as of last year, is Theodore (Ted) Torbeck. Due to the change of command, perhaps a renewed push for dropping H-S is in order?

Hmm. Well, that just narrowed my choices in a hunting rifle. Think I'll drop Remington a line and explain why I'm buying anything but one of their guns.
And I'll be doing my shopping at Cabela's. ;)
I dont think that Tika or Sako use any HS stuff, and i love my T3, and it comes in just about any caliber you want, mines in 7mm08 and i love it for hunting here in Germany.
Kimber 8400 series is an awesome platform. Winchester Model 70 is another great option. Most people love the Savage series, I was soured on them when I was looking for my first serious bolt gun. Picked it up and it rattled, bolt face wasn't very tight, action wasn't crisp, and the trigger was down right horrible (this was while the accu-trigger was still an aftermarket item). You and the IC both can probably guess my stance on my demand for quality out of the box after seeing the toy chest.
The 8400 series I would strongly recommend looking at. It's available easily in both calibers you're looking at as well as with bull barrels. You can also pick up my exact rifle alone without the rest of the kit and drop what ever optics, pod, etc you want to throw on it. It's like buying a custom build but in the store from the factory.
As for HS-Precision being forgotten, it hasn't. Look at Joe's blog during the NRA convention. The booth was empty and you have those awesome T-Shirts that I really want to get. It's a bummer. However I would like to point out the majority of money coming into companies like that is from civilians, not from the government. If the rep was snotty and acted the way you describe, he probably get's that exact style call more often than you'd think. Why do you think that little rep was suspicious of a political lecture coming on. He also seemed to know exactly why you were ticked off at HS-Precision. He was probably grumpy because you distracted him from his game of solitaire for something he probably had happen 5 minutes earlier with someone else. Harder to say that with the first statement of demand, but the only demand I know of for HS is from the government. No self-respecting civilian will touch their equipment now. The low level trenches know their customers are pissed off. As long as blogs about it keep popping up on a regular basis the heat will continue to rise. I hadn't looked deep into the current Remington lineup till you guys mentioned it last weekend and needless to say I was pissed off afterwords.

Why in hell would you want to buy anything from Remington, anyway? Their ammo can be good, but their guns range from poor to mediocre, with prices that are too high for what you get. The mighty have been falling for a while, politics notwithstanding.
Winchester uses B&C stocks, not H-S, for their nicer composites, and they make a nicer rifle with a superior action for real-world use, for less money. Made in USA, too.
We're eyeballing Winchester, now. Originally we were thinking Savage, but they sell H-S as well.
Should I bring it up?
I'd bet you'll buy one if you shoot it…:-)
Still; of all the people to choose as a spokesman…
There are plenty of other good rifles out there, many suggested here already. Some fo the Rugers shoot surprizingly well too, and I've had that echoed by other Ruger owners.
The best three-shot group I've personally witnessed was done with a Ruger (all factory original) but I should point out that it was extremely slow fire, i.e. the barrel had time to cool down to near ambient between shots. It was made by Son, and he's no expert by today's standards.
