This is what we call “missing the point”

Palin: Tea Partiers “Have to Pick a Party” – CBS News

“Now the smart thing will be for independents who are such a part of this Tea Party movement to, I guess, kind of start picking a party,” Palin said. “Which party reflects how that smaller, smarter government steps to be taken? Which party will best fit you? And then because the Tea Party movement is not a party, and we have a two-party system, they’re going to have to pick a party and run one or the other: ‘R’ or ‘D’.”

I wanted so badly to like her, for her to be what I wanted her to be, and I think that makes her even more intolerable to me at this point.

The GOP is long overdue to announce “contract with America 2.0″ (i.e. We really mean it this time, honest!)

It will not go well if they instead say “well, who are you going to vote for? Democrats? Hah!”

Bush 2 signed the discreet carry law in Texas, and rode that all the way to the Whitehouse, where he did 7.5 years of jack shit to restore individual RKBA, only signing an executive order for park carry at the twilight of his terms. Meanwhile, we got TARP, a massive rewarding of failure, with the cash going to Wall Street, and coming from the pockets of our grandkids.

Also, I’m having a really hard time thinking of _any_ troubled asset that were purchased by the Federal government, most of the money was subverted from the purpose they “sold” us TARP with (if you count 50-1 against, as “selling”)

Does Sarah think she can waltz in and charm a few people holding tea bags, and the rest of the pissed-off will just follow them around by the nose?

I think there is the possibility that Palin is making a savvy move here. Remember, these are people who co-opted one of the most badass points in our history and took the balls from it. Do you really think Sam Adams would approve of taking an event where they put their asses on the line, went out and raised hell, and use it to send a bad of tea to your representative. I can see it now:

Citizen Pussyfart:

I’m so angry about this. And I’m so excited about Glenn Beck. He’s so right. The founding fathers were all God-fearing Christians who believed in the will of the people, blah, blah, blah. I’m going to go to a tea party where I exploit my children by pushing my political stance upon them and have them hold signs. In fact, I’m going to send a teabag to my Congressman to show how serious I am.

Congressman fuckhead:

Hrm, I just got a bad of tea in the mail. I better do what Citizen Pussyfart says or he might, ummmmm, send me another tea bag.

Seriously, I’m not advocating violence or vandalism, but I’ll tell you know that Sammy would be pissed at how pathetic this is. He’d be advocating the very few who have gone out and destroyed politicians cars. He’d be leading smoke-ins at bars and then having a crowd of people kick the ever loving shit out of the cops that ticketed anyone. He would not advocate such fecklessness.

Sniff, sniff ….. I smell a red blooded American Patriot … or a fellow Marine.

I couldn’t agree any more strongly with your sentiments.

I attended a few Tea Parties and handed out the following flyer: This is NOT a Tea Party

Only a few handful understood … the rest were confused.

Heh, I was just thinking about that guy who gave the IRS a new airplane the other day, and was reminded of this point.

Ms. Palin,

I’ve picked a party — it is the party of my family, my friends, myself.

It isn’t the republican party that has grown the government that I’ve joined. It isn’t the democratic party that has grown the government that I’ve joined.

It is the party of Stop Raising my Taxes and not fixing the Roads party that I’ve joined.

It is the party of Stop destroying our civil liberties that I’ve joined.

I’ve picked a party and as long as candidates from either party don’t get the message, they don’t get my vote.

Pretty Simple Sarah

See, I always saw her for what she was–a marginally prettier but less successful Dan Quayle.

Yeah, I never really liked her (except in the she’s hot as hell sort of way). McCain turns me off, which is extra disappointing because he was a badass as a Midshipman at the Academy and as a pilot. Since she jumped right up on his bandwagon, she scared me.

This Tea Party crap has gone insane now.

It’s like Eric Hoffer said: “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business and eventually degenerates into a racket.” It didn’t take long, did it?

Much as I am damned pissed at both parties, Sarah is right. Everytime we have had a third party all it did was to divide the vote. That’s how we got Clinton, thanks to Ross P. I’m damned pissed that the country club, I’m so rich and better than you, bastards that have control of the Republican Party. I have always been a conservative and frankly, I couldn’t stand McCain. Voted for him because he sure as hell would have been better than BO. He chose Sarah because she was to his right. That’s not too say I think Sarah is the best thing since sliced bread, but she sure as hell is closer to my views than the CC Republicans (AKA RINOs).

We do have to decide which party of the 2 we are going to support. The Dems have drunk too much of their own Koolaid to change the direction of that party. That leaves the GOP, take it back and then kick the neocon bastards out of it and put real conservatives in. We got in this mess because we were complacent after Reagan and let Bush the First bring his buddies in. We should have made a fuss then.

I don’t believe our two party system serves anyone other than leadership of the two parties.

Buzz,

So you’re saying you like the type of splintering that gets you in a situation where a party with less than the majority get to be in charge like in Israel and other places. I don’t know maybe if the Dems split up as well as the GOP. doesn’t seem likely though so what you end up with is the conservative vote split and the libs hanging together and winning. No thanks, I will remember what Ben Franklin said “We must all hang together or else we will all hang together”. I’ll hang with the Republican’s for now. Even though I’m personally more of a Libertarian.

Bruce,

While I understand your position, and it’s well reasoned, I simply can’t vote republican anymore (and definitely not democrat). The less or two evils is still evil, and I can’t get that out of my head. While I’ve personally all but given up on voting (I’m fairly certain I’m not registered anymore), if a certain candidate, like Ron Paul, were to run, I’d register again without a party (or whatever party I had to) to vote for that person. They’d have to really impress me like Congressman Paul has, however.

Bruce, what’s the point in voting for a side if they don’t represent you at all? That’d be like pretending to be a Saints fan during the Super Bowl. It doesn’t accomplish anything. Besides, it seems to me as it’d be better that the Democrats continue to win. At least in that way we aren’t reinforcing bad behavior. Also at least people will still pretend to not approve of the goings on in D.C.

As long as a party can always count on your vote, they will NEVER be obligated to listen to or respect your wishes.

Continuing to vote for Republicans simply because they are not Democrats, is like the battered wife choosing her abusive husband over the rapist because the husband at least says, “I love you.” There are other options.
