Have I mentioned I love USAA?

USAA has a Deposit@Home feature for full members, which allows you to scan a check and deposit it instantly online.

They ALSO have an iPhone app that allows you to take a picture of a check with the iPhone camera (and it doesn’t even have to be a very good one) and deposit it instantly.

Since we have laptops and don’t have a scanner hooked up, the app is fan-shmastic for my purposes.

Today’s iPhone cost justification: COMPLETE.

P.S. I really <3 USAA.

Wow, I wish my bank would let me do that! Especially given their relative lack of nearby branches…I tend to wait longer than necessary to deposit checks because it’s hard to justify a trip to the bank for just one check, but I receive checks rather infrequently. They pile up and get ignored until I have enough of them. Being able to take pictures and send them in would be awesome!

Since USAA doesn’t have local branches at all, most places, they also don’t charge you to use other banks’ ATMs. On top of that, they pay you back for the fees the other banks charge to use their ATMs, up to $15/month. *grin*

Just be careful, and I’d keep the checks till you are SURE they clear. I used the iphone app for 2 checks so far. 1. Came back as account not available (its a check from work, I cash them all the time) and #2 claimed to be fine, but has NEVER showed up in my account, even though its cleared from the office checking account.

It sounds like an awesome idea, but so far I’ve lost out 2 out of 2 times.

My boyfriend is ex-USMC (but can you ever really be an *ex* Marine?) and does that USAA scanning thing. Our scanner is temperamental, at best. Perhaps he should get an iPhone now and just circumvent the frustration! Thanks for the hot tip!
