Sic Semper Tyrannis
Well, Ted Kennedy is dead.
His body wasn’t even cold before my College Republican acquaintances started coming out in droves on Facebook, thanking him for his service to the country, calling him an icon, saying it wasn’t a partisan issue, etc.
They’re right. It’s not a partisan issue. It’s an issue of being a drunkard, a murderer, and a socialist.
I understand Kennedy had a family who loved him, warts and all, and that they are mourning now. I am sorry for them.
But I did not respect Kennedy in life, I do not appreciate his legacy, and I am glad he is no longer in the Senate helping to fuck up my country.
The saying goes: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all… not pretend reprehensible people are worthy of our respect and praise now that they’re dead.
I’d like to think Ted Kennedy no longer being in the Senate is a political victory for the country, but then I consider all these folks in my generation who are supposed to be at least halfway on my side, blowing the guy because that’s what good little aspiring politicians do… and it makes me sick. It really does.
Hopeless. Fucking hopeless.

Guy on my crew says “Ted Kennedy Has Died.” Just like that, caps and all.
I said “How could they tell?” He was sputtering or five minutes, first time I ever saw him speechless.
Then I read Malkin’s screed about how we should be all solemn and respectful… Screw that, Scotland’s economy is about to tank, exports will be off for months.
On the healthcare home front, it looks like there will be an election between 145 and 160 days for a replacement. There will be NO appointment from the Governor in the meanwhile. This was a direct result of John Kerry running for President in 2004 while Mitt Romney was the state’s governor.
A few days ago, something was said that something needed to be done, but of course no one from the totally unbiased media explained all the details.
Barack “transparency will be the touchstone of my administration” Obama needs all the votes he can muster. This will be interesting to watch. I assume they’ll try to change the law and appoint someone ASAP.
Finally!
And it is disgusting to see all the people who should know better saying nice things about that worthless POS.
hear hear!
Just as the collective IQ rose when Cynthia McKinney left the House, now it is the Senate’s turn.
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”
Agreed – that’s all my LJ post says…
I was saddened by his death.
His death (at right around the average first-world life expectancy, so it’s not “untimely”) reminded me of several disturbing things:
1. You can get away with murder if you’re a rich aristocrat.
2. The US HAS an aristocracy, despite all those who died trying to get rid of aristocrats.
3. There are still Kennedys left alive.
4. My loss of any firm theistic beliefs leaves me doubting that there’s a hell, and I find the lack of a hell quite disappointing.
I’m sure there are more, but for those reasons, I’m saddened because of his death (not BY it).
I thought I’d be happier. Really, I did.
Nevertheless, I wish my flag wasn’t trashed, or I’d fly it today. That reminds me, I’ve gotta get a tall flagpole, so it’s VERY clear when I’m flying the thing half-staff vs. full-staff.
What do you mean, there’s no rattlesnake on the US flag? There is on mine, dude.
I agree with you, Laurel. I’ve had to bite by tongue today (or, at least, avoid commenting on a few facebook posts). One was, ‘Oh, Teddy, I loved you so.” Seriously?????
The fat murdering treasonous bastard is dead, I can’t wait to piss on his grave.
As for the nothing party, mourning the F.M T.B. And praising it… Well, it takes two parties to make up a Tyrannical Government.
i couldn’t agree more – good riddance

Maryjo Kopechne
Well, the comments prior to mine have pretty much covered the ground, so…. Here, Here!!!!
bobk
It would be nice if Teddy’s passing signified the end of an era. It doesn’t. Whomever replaces him could very well be as reprehensible – if not more so. What does it say about us as a people if we believe it is right to honor him and pay tribute to him simply because he was a member of our government? Teddy Kennedy worked tirelessly to turn this country to socialism. Mary Jo Kopechne died in a submerged car driven by Teddy. Yet, Teddy was not charged / prosecuted. This is NOT water under the bridge (oops) that I choose to bring up because I can’t let the past go, or because he was a Democrat. Bottom line – he committed a crime and it was absolved because he was a Kennedy. He not only remained free, he became another Kennedy icon! Is there something in the water in Mass? When my fellow countrymen suggest we should turn the other cheek, or lay down a sword for a day or two, out of respect for a murdering socialist, I say to them – you can go to hell. When my fellow countrymen, who are otherwise sensible people, lose their moral compass over the death of an adversary, I fear for the future of my children and grandchildren.
“As we speak, the man is getting fried and crisp….oh, I probably shouldn’t yell that from up here.”
I only regret that he had one life to lose for my country.
I have nothing to say directly about the man, but will relate a story:
When my oldest grand son was over at my house doing his homework he was looking for info on my computer about the Kennedys. Then writing up his report. After he was finished I read it and commented that he left out all of the “good stuff”.
I then proceeded to show him the “other” side of the Kennedy Clan. You know all of the sexual proclivities and activity’s of the Kennedy boys and of course the tragic death of a young lady by young Teddy.
He proceeded to amend his report. The next day he called and said that he got an F on the report, for including hearsay and untruths.
Papa Ray
West Texas
Papa Ray..of course he got an F. We can’t be cluttering up febrile minds with nagging little things like, The FACTS.
I’m glad he’s dead. If I didn’t have two left feet, and if it weren’t for the fact I was still groggy and going thru the waking up process when I was told the next morning he’d passed…..I’d have danced a jig.
I hear ya, good God I was elated when Reagan finally died! That son of a bitch did so much damage to our country for 8 years, from selling arms to terrorists, arming a brutal regime in Nicaragua and bypassing Congress in direct violation of the Constitution, all the other proxy wars in Central America, his economically ruinous policy, etc. Thank God the ol’ Alzheimer’s addled bastard finally departed and left this sweet earth a little bit lighter without the weight of his bullshit! Thanks for not requiring me to venerate such a ruinous son of a bitch after he died! Now I’m just waiting for the day when Cheney’s has his 475th heart attack and finally kicks it, I’ll have a celebratory drink that day for sure!
I approved your comment because I’m all for facilitating your public humiliation.
Sweetheart, follow along, if you can: Reagan was not a sitting US Senator at the time of his death. He was not the President. He was not even a political activist. He had absolutely zero impact on the political realm at his death aside from his legacy; he was doing no more harm to the country (if that’s how you perceived his work). So, those who danced on his grave just seemed petty and spiteful… and of sub-standard cognitive abilities, really.
If Cheney were to kick off tomorrow, you’d be fully entitled to relish – he’s an active political force.
Do you understand the difference?
I bet if you think reeeeeal hard, now, you’ll understand which one is more analogous to Ted Kennedy! But, don’t strain yourself.
I was making more of a point towards the callousness of celebrating the death of anyone, regardless of how you viewed their political work, a point I’m not at all surprised you missed. You can disagree with someone’s politics until the end of time, but anyone who celebrates or even seems to celebrate the death of someone has a particularly craven way of viewing humanity. Sorry if my sarcasm proved too nuanced and complex for you, next time I’ll break out the crayons and draw you a picture…you plan on posting this one, too?
I got your point, and rejected it as invalid.
Logical conclusion of your way of thinking: We should be solemnly respectful at the news Saddam Hussein was hanged, or at the death of Hitler or Mussolini.
What? They were people, too. Political figures, even.
People of varying political differences in a Democracy are a far cry from Hitler and Mussolini…kind of saw that leap coming from a couple miles down the road.
anyone who celebrates or even seems to celebrate the death of someone has a particularly craven way of viewing humanity
You were rather non-specific about who constitutes a ’someone,’ were you not?
But, honestly? You’re two weeks late to this party and I am not in the mood for this shit today, so here: +10 internet points. You win.
